Public Awareness Campaign - Infrastructure Issues in Niagara Region
February 12, 2002
There’s a new destination for those travelling the information superhighway, www.hcarn.com. It’s the Heavy Construction Association of Regional Niagara (HCARN) website with a purpose of informing the public about infrastructure issues throughout Niagara Region.
HCARN includes 36 Niagara based heavy construction firms that provide road construction, reconstruction and sewer/water main construction services. Last year, the Association created quite a stir with a report entitled “The Case for Increased Infrastructure Investment in the Region of Niagara”. This report highlighted the immediate need for investment in road infrastructure and in sewer and water main construction, and was the topic of conversation at several local council meetings.
The new website features similar reports and updates on the construction industry in the region. Of particular interest is an Infrastructure Survey, where Niagara residents can voice their opinions on the following issues:
· Government funding
· Road Safety
· Water Safety
· Municipal Services
HCARN will be conducting an awareness campaign during the months of March & April, 2002 and will be appearing in the major shopping mall locations throughout the region surveying the public. The results of the survey will be analyzed and detailed results broken down by geographic area. All results will be released to the media as they are realized.
While most people take for granted the safety of the roads they travel on and the water they drink, HCARN is taking the initiative to keep people informed of what’s happening in Niagara.
We hope that you along with all of the residents of the Region will take the time to complete the survey and provide us with you honest opinions of the state of infrastructure in Niagara
If you have any questions regarding our public awareness campaign or would like to schedule an interview, please contact Rick Phibbs, President of HCARN at (905) 382-2464. For more information about HCARN, please visit our website at http://www.hcarn.com
